THE REAL BIO

RYAN GRIMES
I became a performer at the age of 5, when I starred in my own television sitcom, which was “filmed” in our family room and only existed in my head. My desire to entertain would not wane, however, as I started lip-syncing to Alvin & The Chipmunks, moved onto singing the entire score to Little Shop of Horrors, and designed miniature sets for the armless, legless Fischer Price people. Originally, my love for the theater was in stagecraft, but the little sitcom star inside my head wanted out, so I obtained a B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of Minnesota, performing on the Mainstage and the Centennial Showboat. Following graduation, I meandered around the Twin Cities independent theater scene through roles with Hardcover, Pigs Eye, Starting Gate, 20%, nimbus, Cromulent, Chameleon, and Bloomington Civic, as well as a summer stock show at Paul Bunyan Playhouse in Bemidji. A fan of Urban Samurai since their first production, my professional affiliation with the company started with 2006's Protection Program, and I performed in 2008's American Apathy while serving on the Board of Directors. I became a core member in Summer 2008, while rehearsing for the role of Starla in the Fringe Festival hit Musical the Musical. Outside of the company, I have performed under the direction of Matt Greseth in 2007Ős Talk Radio and A Gaggle of Saints, for which I was named Outstanding Actor by the Region V AACT Festival in Liberty, Missouri.
